Bedfordshire Golf Club - Juniors Section
Wee Wonders British & Irish Champion 2018
Congratulations to Roisin Scanlon for winning the Adidas Golf, Wee Wonders British & Irish Championships held at St Andrews, Scotland.
This year there were over 56 regional qualifiers held across England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales where 30 players qualified for the grand final at St Andrews, the ‘Home of Golf’.
Roisin Scanlon from Bedfordshire Golf Club competed in the girls 9-10 year old category, along with Olivia Costello from Ireland who lead the field with identical scores over the first 2 rounds. Both girls with playing handicaps of 9 took control of the tournament and with 4 holes to go, either one could have claimed the top prize. Roisin closed the last 4 holes in level par and claimed the top prize by one shot.
Roisin now receives an automatic invitation to the 2019 Wee Wonders Grand Final along with invites to USkids European & World Championships 2019 and a first-place trophy with a voucher from Adidas golf.

Bedfordshire Golf Club is Proud to Host the Tavistock Trophy - Friday 24th August
Bedfordshire Golf Club is pleased to have been asked to host the County Junior Inter-club & Knock-Out Competition, The Tavistock Trophy. The competition was due to be hosted by another club, but unfortunately their courses had been badly affected by the recent drought and were considered unplayable by the organisers.
Bedfordshire Golf Club's 18 Hole Stagsden is recovering well and greening up nicely and has therefore been selected an an alternative venue. Our course management team deserve our thanks for ensuring our courses are in such good condition considering the long dry spell.
The competition itself takes place this Friday from 11.30am off the 1st tee, so please come along and support the county's best young players as they fight it out for the honour of winning the Tavistock Trophy.
Roisin Takes Another Major Step on her Golfing Journey
Roisin Scanlon competed this week in the North of England Junior Open Stroke play Championship at South Moor GC. The competition was run over 3 days and Roisin (who is still only 10) finished 3rd in the under 12's and 8th overall in under 14's categories. Unsurprisingly, she was one of the youngest in the field. Conditions were testing with strong winds and heavy rain on the final day but she still managed to shoot 9 over par - a quite remarkable achievement for one so young.
She has since received confirmation that she has been accepted to compete at the England under 14/16 Open Amateur Championships at Lyme Regis GC. She is the youngest competitor and will be a huge experience for her. We obviously wish her the very best for her next challenge in what is a meteoric rise in the golfing world.
Roisin successfully takes on the world's best junior golfers
Roisin Scanlon had an amazing week of golf in Scotland playing in the US Kids European Golf Championships at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Course (6th oldest course in the World).
Roisin played in the 10 year old age category. On the first day she shot -1 and on the 2nd day shot level par. The final day she shot -3 to finish the tournament on -4 and in 2nd place overall.
The winning score was -7 from a girl from the USA who has won the event for the last 3 years and won 2 world championships. On the last day Roisin made 7 birdies and 1 eagle but was not enough to catch the American.
Third place was also an American followed by two girls from the Czech republic and Germany.
Roisin is now looking forward to the world championship at Pine Hurst, NC in August and hopefully go one better.
The world’s best young golfers, ages 5-18, will travel to East Lothian, Scotland in 2018 for the eleventh annual U.S. Kids Golf European Championship.
In 2017, a record field of over 670 players and their families traveled from more than 50 countries to compete in Europe’s premier junior golf tournament at the Home of Golf
Roisin's 2nd place in the tournament now gives her the highest priority status (Burgundy) to all US kids events around the world.

Marshalling & Supervisory Help Needed for Junior Competitions
To all members
You may be aware that we have a new Junior Organising Team in place at Bedfordshire Golf Club and we are delighted to say that we are once again running Junior Competitions on a regular monthly basis on both courses.
Dates for 2018 competitions are in the process of being agreed, but we need some additional support from Members to provide supervision of and marshalling for our developing young players.
If you have a spare few hours once or twice a year to provide supervision on course during competitions then we are keen to hear from you.
Please send an email to Fidelma, Taneisha or Anthony to register your interest at email@example.com
Thanks in advance and we look forward to hearing from you.

Eastern Region Junior County Week
A huge well done to Georgia Staroscik & Roisin Scanlon who competed in the East Region Junior County week at Colne Valley GC, Essex.
Georgia amazingly went undefeated for all her 5 matches - a fantastic achievement.
Roisin (age 9) played in two rounds against single digit handicappers and lost 2&1 in both matches gaining invaluable experience in representing the county and the Bedfordshire Golf Club.
Finally - it's great to see some of the up and coming golfing talent in the Juniors Section of the club. If you know of a young aspiring golfer who would like to play in competitons or who could benefit from some coaching support, just let one of the Junior Organising team know (see details in newsletter below).
