'Par 3' 9 Hole, Academy Course

Where There's Will, There's a Par 3 Championship Win - December 2019

The Par 3, Academy Course Championship took place on Saturday in weather that was as changeable as the wind! Those who played it in the cold driving rain which came down mid-morning, were at a significant disadvantage to those who played only a couple of hours later in bright winter sunshine.

Turnout for the December competition was lower than usual, but this was probably a direct result of the weather. A few of those who did play however, delivered some really impressive results and ended with sub-Par rounds. The best of these were as follows:

in 4th place with a Net 27.6 was Steve Lay
in 3rd with Net 26.6 was Steve Coppock
runner-up with Net 26.3 (and best Gross of 28) was John Owen
but our overall winner with a Net 25.0 was Will Marsh

Well done to all the above, and if you have never played in this competition, why not put it in your diary for next year? The Par 3 Academy Course is our 'Hidden Jewel' and often gets ignored by many Members. It's a great course in its own right, but it's also one of the best places to practice your irons, as you have real greens to aim at, many of which are tighter than on the 18 hole course. Let's make 2020 the year with the biggest Par 3 Championship field.
Championship Winner Will Marsh

Success for Simon in Par 3 Championship - Dec 2018
The much deferred Men's 2018 Par 3 Academy Course Championship, finally took place on Sunday.

Whilst the field was perhaps somewhat reduced due to the event being played in winter instead of summer, the competition for the podium places was as intense as ever. Some impressive scores were recorded over the 9 holes and two players even managed to break the course par of 28.

In 3rd place with a very respectable Net 25.6 was Steve Coppock
Runner-up with a gross 27 and Net 25 was John Haines
but the overall winner with a Gross 27 and Net 23 was Simon Cavill

Well done to all those who took part - and if you've never played in this Full Board Competition, look out for the 2019 event - which will hopefully be played much earlier in the year than it was this time!
Academy Course Championship - Results

The Academy Course Championship (a 'Board' competition) which took place on Saturday 10th June was a closely contested competition played in blustery conditions. This made it hard to play accurate iron shots to the tight greens and it caught many out, resulting in scores which were not what some might have hoped for. Indeed, only one player managed to get round the 9 holes under par gross, but more of him shortly.

In 3rd place with a net 26.3 was Past Captain Kevin Dunbar
In 2nd place with a Net 26.0 was Clive Resch
but this year's winner was Steve Lay with a Gross 27 (1 under Par) and Net 24.3. Well done to all three for their impressive performances and congratulations to Steve.
